Math
ADDITION FACT DRILLS
How timed math works:
As a class we do a lot of practice in the classroom. I do understand that being timed is never fun and many students struggle with this issue, but this is a must have kind of thing. When I was a student, I personally never liked to be timed as well, so I came up with a solution to help those that stress from being timed.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday are all practice days. Before we begin our math period we will spend 2 minutes out of our time and complete the timed math paper. The student is to complete as many as they can during those 2 minutes. Once the two minutes is over, I go around the room, draw a line under where they stopped, and set the times again for another 2 minutes. The student will continue the paper until finished or the two minutes are up. The papers you receive from there days are JUST PRACTICE and do not need to be returned. The student will receive a full credit for this worksheet as a skill in the grade book.
Thursday is the test day. We will once again take the first 2 minutes of our math period to complete this test, however; this time I will collect the papers for a grade out of the full amount stated on the worksheet (43 points possible). This grade will go into the grade book and will accumulate to be 10% of the grade.
I will begin with Timed Math 0-2 and will not move on to the next timed math worksheet until the majority of the class receives a 35/43 on the test. With that being said, we could be on the same worksheet for a week, two weeks, a month or even longer until that goal of 35 for the majority of the class is achieved.
